Crazy Guy

Cricket craze is common among youngsters. But here is Melrick Crasta who has an uncommon craze. This third year bio-chemistry student of St Aloysius College in Mangalore, is so crazy of lizards, frogs and snakes that he enjoys catching them.

He handles the little creatures he catches with great care. He holds them on his palms, feels them, tries to observe their behaviour when he holds them and then lets them free. His craze for lizards and frogs developed when he was in seventh standard, as he watched Discovery channel. Melrick has so far caught a worm snake, a rat snake and says the next on his list was to catch an Emerald Tree Python.

Anything can drive you crazy, But it’s lizards and frogs that drives this young man crazy. Isn’t it?

Adventure is his second name!

He’s the one guy that girls would love to fall for - if only they knew him. He’s Akhilesh, a shy young lad of 25 whose love for adventure is unfortunately greater than his liking for cute babes. From dense jungles to mighty mountains, he’s been there, done that. Pronto.

A young engineer, an alumni of PA College of Engineering of the city, he is presently the blue eyed boy of L&T in Mysore. His dad, Gokul Bhat is famous for being the funiest man in any party. His mom Anitha is the nicest lady you can find. His friends are all the best people around. No wonder he’s grown up to be the most loveable lad he is. All the best, Akki.

MNM Club (Ladies Wing) celebrates Women's Day

International Women's Day (IWD) which celebrated on the 8th of March every year, is a important day of global celebration of women. In different regions the focus of the celebrations ranges from general celebration of respect, appreciation and love towards women to a celebration for woman's economic, political and social achievements.

Mrs. Suchitha Nanda Gopal, president of MNM Club (Ladies Wing) lit the lamp in front of Late Indira Gandhi's portrait and inaugurated the 100th International Woman's day program. Later addressing the women she said, "Recognition for a lady is very much important and when we get the opportunities, we have to grab it and act accordingly. Many women are getting opportunities but they are not utilizing it. This is a male dominant world and we women hesitate to compete with men. Why we selected 8th March to solve our problems, by holding large-scale events that honour a women's advancement and while diligently reminding of the continued vigilance and action required to ensure that woman's equality is gained and maintained in all aspects of life." Further continuing she said, "The hands that rock the cradle will rule the world." She said that by involving in political and industrial fields, women can achieve a lot in the society as well as they can rule the country like Mrs. Late Indira Gandhi.

Manjalpade - Hidden Glory

Mangaloreans have you ever wondered what a prosperous Mangalore might look like? If you have a hard time defining or even visualizing it, the simple answers like religious places, malls, hotels, theatres and biological parks might be collected. Then, are you aware about the existence of a water fall in your very own city, while you travel thousands of miles to a sky scaping waterfall and make it as a destination of trips and excursions. Yes, Mangalore indeed has a waterfall and it is in ‘Manjalpade’, an interior place located 3 kms from Bondel last stop.

It can be described as a forest within the city and again a city within the forest. The place Manjalpade belonging to NMPT harbour consists of a mini water fall and a stream deep inside the dense forest. These falls are delicately and gracefully flowing and relaxes and mesmerizes you with their intricate beauty. The place is also famous for the peacocks present in large numbers. The existence of waterfalls depends heavily on a combination of climate and geology. Hence, the water fall here is at its best during the rainy season. ‘Apart from the local residents very few people are aware of this water fall’, says Ganesh, a localite. It is a cool and calm place to relax and enjoy your weekends with family and friends. The stream is also said to be subterranean and there have been incidents wherein people have drowned here. According to Rithesh, a mechanical engineer, the place is well known for washing trucks. At the same time he regrets that the authorities have made no much effort to maintain this place of importance.

2010: Decennial Year for MNM Club

2000 to 2010: It’s an Adventures and Fearless decade to MNM Club. The club was founded by Mr. Mahesh Nayak in 2000, when the world was threatened with Y2K menace. Through the decade the club was achieved all its goals and motto and is proud of all the members and their achievements.

Now the main responsibility of the club is to save the world from the Mayan Calendar menace in 2012 and we are ready to take all those challenges every moment of our life. The future plans and decennial year celebration programme will be published after our next Club meeting.
